Basics of Energy Working: Psychic Hygiene

The first lesson you must master on your pursuits of self healing through energy workings is to learn the importance of psychic hygiene. Psychic Hygiene is using certain techniques to clear oneself of all negative blockages within our chakra power lines that occur frequently from ordinary, every day stress and issues.

Chakras are energy centers within the body that must be maintained and energized to live in balance and health, but we will learn more about chakras later. Right now the most important practice to begin with is the main type of psychic hygiene known to many as grounding.

Grounding is clearing and releasing all unwanted energy from the body, mind and spirit: living one clear from all tension, stress, and anxiety that would hinder you from living a healthy lifestyle. Grounding is usually done before undertaking any spiritual practice such as meditation, spell craft, yoga, or chakra workings; but i find its a good habit to cultivate to deal with everyday disruptions: tense day at work, anxiety about a test, or centering yourself for a big event.

There are many and more grounding techniques out there and I encourage those that are interested to research and experiment with different techniques, find the right one for you. I will reveal a few types of grounding that I feel are the best for their purpose:

The Water Fall of Light

The first technique I like to call, "The Waterfall Of Light", it is a technique taught by the Correllian Natavist Tradition (correllian.org), I've tweaked it ever so slightly and I must admit it is the technique I always use when I ground myself.

Place yourself in a comfortable position, either cross legged with hands palm side down on the ground, or in a chair with hands palm side down on your lap. Make sure before hand that you will not be disturbed during this session. Now take a moment to just breathe, slow, deep breaths. Now visualize, or envision within your mind, pure white light descending into your body from the top of your head. See this light as washing over and within you. Washing away all tension, stress and pain. See the pure white light wash out the black negative, unwanted energy through the palms of your hands and the soles of your feet; see this energy pour into the Earth where it will be purified. Once you feel you have cleansed yourself of all unwanted energy then drain out the pure white light into the Earth as well, until you are completely clear. You have just grounded with "The Waterfall of Light".

This technique utilizes some important chakras that not many people know about much less discuss; and these are the chakras with in the palms of you hands and the soles of your feet. These chakras have the ability to take in or release energy to and from the body. These chakras, in my opinion, are important to exercise and strengthen in order to advance in energy workings.

The Root Cord

Another popular grounding technique is known as " The Root Cord". Essentially, once you have placed yourself in a comfortable position (sitting is best), and once you have calmed your mind: visualize that a cord at the base of your spine descends easily into the core of the Earth, say aloud or to yourself, "I wish to connect to the heart of the Earth." Now "pull" Earth energy up your cord, see it as green or red energy. Bring the energy up to your spine then let it spread all through out you body: legs, feet, torso, arm, neck, head, etc. Let the energy fill you completely. Now let it slowly drain out back to your base spine and down your cord, into the Earth to be purified. Calmly recall you cord and you have just grounded with "The Root Cord."

There are still many ways to ground yourself in the most simplest ways. For instance, take a dap of sea salt on your tongue and you are now grounded since salt's natural vibrations are purification and cleansing. This simple technique is great in a pinch for time, but it doesn't exercise your mental and spiritual abilities. To advance in energy workings you must practice good habits to be a catalyst of positive, healing energy. The best times to ground, I have found: is in the morning, before bed, before work, after work, before and after exercise and generally when you find the need to clear yourself.

The challenge now is to keep up with daily grounding. This is the only way to become proficient in this type of energy work, and in fact all energy workings must be done with regular practice. This will strengthen your abilities to control all the forces that affect your life. Allowing you to be in control for your own growth and happiness. This can be hard at first, I know, but set attainable goals for yourself until practicing daily becomes a part of your everyday routine. When you begin try once every 2 days, or even 3 times a week. Just try your best to attain the daily habit of grounding in your own time. The benefits are worth the effort.

Animal Reiki Techniques

Animal Reiki Techniques

Animal Reiki Techniques: Reiki for Animals is a Little Different than Reiki for People

Animals are more “tuned in” to the energetic realm and physically their bodies have been created to be more aware of the environment and all beings within it.

Animals are also highly tuned into our physical presence, our behavior, our inner attitudes, movements and posture. All of this can affect an animal's willingness to accept the energy.

Animals have a more highly developed sense of intuition than humans, so an animal’s likeliness of being willing to connect during a Reiki session will be better if you are able to maintain positive thoughts.

Visualize the animal as fully healed and in perfect balance rather than focusing on any problems or health issues the animal is displaying. Hold a space of light and peace in your heart and mind.

By creating a healing space like this the animal is more likely to relax and open up to your energetic connection. Because animals are very sensitive and intuitive, you cannot fool them by pretending to be calm on the outside if you are upset on the inside. Animals can also sense any emotional disconnect that you may be feeling during the session.

If feeling unbalanced it is better to wait until you feel calm before offering Reiki.

Animal Reiki Techniques: Respect Animal Sensitivities During Reiki

Because animals are have highly tuned senses and intuition, you can easily make them more comfortable by taking the following actions.

  • Speak quietly

  • Behave Calmly

  • Avoid forcing physical contact with hands-on Reiki

  • Be willing to maintain the physical distance the animal chooses

  • Avoid dominant physical positions

  • Maintain respectful and nonconfrontational eye contact (sometimes avoid eye contact all together)

Animal Reiki Techniques: The Five Reiki Precepts

Balanced energy is attractive to animals. The “Five Reiki Precepts” will help you become more balanced and make it easier to connect with animals.

The “Five Reiki Precepts” are rules of conduct written by Mikao Usui to help people live a more balanced life.

THE FIVE REIKI PRECEPTS

  1. Just for today I will not anger.

  2. Just for today I will not worry.

  3. Just for today I will be humble.

  4. Just for today I will be honest in my work.

  5. Just for today I will be compassionate to myself and others.

Practicing The Five Reiki Precepts regularly will helps us maintain balance and makes it easier for us to stay balanced when we do healing work. Animals can sense even more quickly than humans when one is unbalanced, so maintaining balance is of the utmost importance when working with animals.

Animal Reiki Sessions

Animal Reiki Sessions
Interested in learning Animal Reiki?  Here are some tips so you can start working with the healing energy with your pets. Everybody has within them an natural, innate ability to heal themselves and others. All it takes is a little effort, the right intention, learning and practice.

Give it a try on your animal companions and you will be amazed at how you begin to feel the energy flow.  A Reiki Class and attunement will give you even more ability and control.

Typical Animal Reiki Sessions

  • A typical Animal Reiki session should take 30 to 60 minutes.

  • Find a quiet space which will be uninterrupted.

  • Sit in a comfortable position, probably on the floor, placing yourself 5-10 feet away from the animal. (Unless you are working with large animals like horses or livestock, in which case it is better to stand.) Sit with your spine straight and shoulders, arms and legs are relaxed.

  • Meditate and think of “holding” a space for healing.

  • Often after you “create the space” for healing the animal will sense the energy and approach to connect with you. (This is saying “yes” to the treatment.)

  • Greet the animal. This can be done verbally or nonverbally.

  • Ask permission/set intention. This can be done verbally or nonverbally.

  • Only offer hands-on Reiki if the animal moves close to your or into your hands.

  • Your eyes can be open or closed.

  • Don’t worry about what the animal is doing – the mental chatter interferes with the ability to “let go” in the healing energy space.

  • Bring yourself back into focus when needed by repeating the breathing and meditation exercises.

  • Animals sometimes show a lot of movement to and from you in a Reiki treatment, this is normal.

  • Animals will often greet you at the beginning of the treatment, and “thank you” at the end of the treatment (often by licking your hand).

  • Remember that it doesn’t matter if there is physical contact or not. The animal will be able to connect with the healing energy even from a distance

  • Look for signs of relaxation in the animal: yawns, sitting or lying down, falling asleep, dreaming

  • Often the animal will give cues that they have had enough Reiki by becoming more active and alert, often licking your hands as a “thank-you”.

Animal Reiki Sessions: Animal Reiki Treatments Using Your Hands

Many animals enjoy hands on treatments. The animal will show this by placing its body under your hands.

Some Tips for Using Your Hands in an Animal Reiki Treatment

  • Create a soft mental focus.  Instead of visualizing the energy flowing out of your hands visualize it flowing in through your crown and out through your entire body, mind and spirit and encompassing the entire space.

  • Use a light gentle touch. Remember Reiki is not massage. Hands can be motionless or lightly petting the animal. Watch the animal’s reactions and act accordingly. Remember, you do not actually "do" the healing, you are the facilitator of the energy.

  • Relax your fingers. Use your intuition and hold your hand in whatever position feels right. Remember you are simply a channel for the energy, the energy knows where to go.

  • Movement is not needed unless the animal wishes it. Watch the animal’s body language for cues as to what feels best for the animal. Keep open and flexible about what makes the animal most comfortable.

Reiki & Healing Touch: Start Today!

Not Reiki trained or attuned?  Who cares!

Reiki and Healing Touch are techniques that are innately natural to humans. We often use these techniques daily without even thinking about them.

You can begin working with Reiki and Healing Touch right now, as you are, and move forward from there. Every great work starts with a small in step in the right direction, and this can be yours!

Have you ever fallen or sprained your ankle, pausing to place your hands on the area that was in pain. Placing your hands on this area helped, right?

If you are a parent, have you soothed your child with a fever by placing your hand on your child's forehead? Maybe soothed a stomach-ache by placing your hand on your child's tummy? Or even "kissed" a boo-boo, for that matter?

Are you a pet owner? Maybe your pet has been sick or hurt, and you stroked it, held the injured part of its body, consoled it and made it feel better?

These are all examples of Reiki and Healing Touch automatically used in everyday situations.

The human body has innate self-healing and empathic-healing ability. Even though society often conditions us against this, it is there--in our genes, waiting to be expressed.

There are many scientific studies showing the value of human touch in relationship to health and well-being.  A simple google search can unearth a wealth of information in this area. And I am sure everyone has heard about the study where certain babies were isolated during infancy and others held during infancy...

So maybe it still seems a bit odd? Ok. Think back. Think back to the last time that you really felt like crap. Would a hug, or a pat on the back, or even a smile helped? My guess is YES.

So... if you want to help yourself and others, you can start with a simple pat on the back, or a hug, or a hand on the forehead or tummy of a sick child.  It's the beginning of the Reiki Magic!  The "Magic" is  good intention combined with  physical touch. Pure, unconditional love. This is the foundation of Reiki.

The most amazing thing about Reiki and Healing Touch is, that if a person desires... the healing energy can be taken even steps further than explained above. Reiki and Healing Touch can worked with, refined, strengthened, and eventually used to heal emotionally, spiritually and physically in the most dramatic fashion.

But it all starts with learning to work with the energy.  THIS you can do now. And if you like it, you can learn more. Joyce and I will be glad to help!

Animal Reiki: Applying the Five Reiki Precepts

THE FIVE REIKI PRECEPTS
  1. Just for today I will not anger.
  2. Just for today I will not worry.
  3. Just for today I will be humble.
  4. Just for today I will be honest in my work.
  5. Just for today I will be compassionate to myself and others.
Practicing The Five Reiki Precepts regularly will help us maintain balance and makes it easier for us to stay balanced when we do healing work. Animals can sense even more quickly than humans when one is unbalanced, so maintaining balance is of the utmost importance when working with animals.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FIVE REIKI PRECEPTS WHEN WORKING WITH ANIMALS
Precept 1: Just For Today I will Not Anger (The Importance of Inner Peace)
As we work with animals, we often come across animals who have been neglected and abused, and we may easily see and/or sense their suffering and post-traumatic stress. Many times a Reiki practitioner will connect with the animal and develop a deep intuitive understanding of all of the animal’s past negative experiences. This may cause the practitioner to become angry about how the animal was treated, about what the animal had to go through, etc. This type of anger often spirals into anger about the world in general, or humanity’s treatment of animals, and so on. This can leave the practitioner in a “bubble of anger”. The anger will distract the practitioner from the main goal –healing. Also, animals are very spiritually in tune and can sense the anger, even though not directed at them, and not want to connect. Anger is dark, restrictive and heavy energetically. It doesn’t leave much room for healing light to shine through.
The best thing to do is acknowledge the anger and let it go. Remember that holding focus on anger detracts from our ability to create a space for healing. Remember that most animals really do want to heal. If we can let go of our anger and see that there is hope we bring in light and healing possibility.
Instead of focusing on anger, focus on the desire to help the animal. Visualize the animal in its perfect form with a happy future. See the animal’s essence and spirit as “a bright star just waiting to shine.” Let go of the anger, see beyond the outer layers of suffering, and look at the inner nature and potential for the animal. Approaching the animal this way radiates inner peace and the animal will want to connect and relax into the healing Reiki space.
Precept 2: Just for Today I will Not Worry (The Importance of Grounding)
Many Reiki practitioners worry about taking on bad energy or other’s diseases. They want to guard themselves from others’ negative energy or emotions—with animals this often includes fear of taking on the animal’s disease, or empathically taking on the emotions of the past bad experiences of an abused animal.  The best way to describe these thoughts is the emotion of fear—fear of taking on something that doesn’t belong to us, fear of connecting with something disturbing, or even fear facing our own issues. The goal of Reiki is to connect—to become one with another for a little while and let the healing energy flow and do its work. How can we connect and do this if we are in a place of fear? We must truly let go of all fear and enter a place of pure compassion. We can then connect in the healing space of Reiki which is full of balance and harmony. Fear is restrictive, closed and small energetically, and just like a cage separates us from the ones we love. Make sure to always let go of fear so the animal will want to share the strong, stable space of Reiki healing.
Precept 3: Just for Today I will Be Humble (The Importance of Opening to Animal Wisdom)
The best way to win over the animal client is to be humble when approaching the animal. How can we ever really know the big picture of the animal’s life?  How can we truly know the life, destiny, purpose and spirit of the animal? If you go into treatment with the attitude that “I know what is wrong with this animal and I am here to heal this animal” you quite often will find an animal that is resistant or unwilling. Animals are very sensitive energetically, and this type of attitude often makes them feel like they are being “pushed”, which may cause them to back off or withdraw.  Try to keep in mind for the animal a thought like “I am here to hold a space for healing and I invite you to connect and take what you need or what you feel will help you the most”. This honors the animal’s wisdom in the fact that their healing journey belongs to them, not you. Coming from a humble place deepens Animal Reiki connections and creates a safe space for healing. And always remember, you are not the one doing the healing. You are being a channel for the energy, and the animal is using the energy to heal itself. Reiki practioners are simply the bridge between the energy and the one being healed.
Precept 4: Just for Today I will be Honest in My Work (The Importance of Being True to Yourself)
Animals are great examples of being true to yourself. Animals make no pretenses, they are always just who they are without apology or judgment. It is difficult for humans to follow their hearts and be true to their life’s purpose. We get caught up in life daily activities and forget to be present and feel out inner truth. We have trouble letting go of our worries and remembering to “just be”. This is where animals can teach us. Watch the animals. They are always who they are in their own skin and find it much easier to be fully present at every moment. When we share time with them, they can bring us into their space of being and show us how to be more fully present. Spending time in this way will help us to expand to a place of compassion and be truly honest in our soul’s work.
Precept 5: Just for Today I will Be Compassionate to Myself and Others (The Importance of Living with Kindness)
Helping an animal is a compassionate action that will have a physical and spiritual ripple effect out into the world. One aspect is that by working with animals in this way you are modeling how to be compassionate. A good practice is to try using the kindness and gentleness you show to animals on yourself. Being loving and kind to ourselves is often difficult. A good way to do this is to practice Reiki self-healing.
When we work with the animals in our lives, we not only help these animals but also act as models for others and help create a more compassionate planet. By spiritually helping the animals you come in contact with creates a spiritual kindness and love that expands beyond what our eyes can physically see. When you practice this on a regular basis, you will notice that animals will sense the love, light, and compassion and be drawn to you and want to connect with you.

Reiki: An Ancient Healing Method for a Modern World in Need

ReikiWhat is Reiki?

Reiki is a healing modality that originated in Japan in the late 1800's with Dr. Mikau Usui.  The word "Reiki" is of Japanese origin and refers to the Universal Life Force. The name originates from the Japanese concepts of REI (spirit) and KI (life force, energy). Reiki has also been described as the Japanese word for “universal energy” and within traditional Eastern healing focuses on the “KI” (also known as "Qi", "Chi", or "Prana") as a method of bringing the life force energy back into balance.  Everyday stress, environmental toxins, addictions, etc. negatively impact the flow of the life force energy. Reiki healing works to re-balance of the subtle energies, which in turn will increase feelings of well being, reduce stress,  and promotes good health. In essence, Reiki is a method of harnessing the Universal Life Force that exists in the world around us and all living creatures, and using this energy to heal ourselves and others. Reiki  restores harmony to negatively impacted areas of the body by flowing through these areas in the energy field and charging them with positive energy to restore harmony. We are all born with this natural ability to heal, and Reiki is a wonderful method of learning to utilize this natural ablity.
Reiki is a gentle, powerful, hands-on healing technique. It is based on specific energy attunement processes in which ancient mantras and symbols are used to amplify the flow of life force energy and to open up the inner healing channel. This means that we use our natural ability to heal and allow more vital life force energy to flow through the upper energy centres (chakras). The energy then flows out through the arms and hands so that wherever we then place our hands healing energy is absorbed. Reiki revitalizes the body, mind, and soul, relieves pain and stress, and helps in many conditions, always supporting the natural healing process.
-Tanmaya Honervogt, "Inner Reiki: A Practical Guide for Healing and Meditation"
Reiki is not a religion, nor is it associated with any particular religion.  It is a form of hands-on energy healing that comes from the Divine and flows through any person who has received an attunement.
Many people do not understand Reiki and consider it some type of "New Age Fad" when in fact it is has been around since the 1800's. The benefits of this subtle energy therapy are only now becoming more popular and being studied by the scientific community.
Medical studies have determined that Reiki healing has the following effects:
  • Reduces Stress and Stress Reactions
  • Lowers Blood Pressure
  • Lowers Heart and Respiration Rates
  • Reduces Bleeding
  • Reduces Pain
  • Raises the Red Blood Cell Count
  • Helps Insomnia
  • Calms Anxiety
These are things that are scientifically observable and that you can promise a receiver of healing. You can promise your students that their healings will do these things. These are not "cures," and you can legally claim their occurrence.
Reiki, however, does much more. Every healer has a dozen stories of miracles they have seen. These are things like the tumor or blood clot that disappeared after a Reiki session, or the surgery that was no longer needed or found to be much less difficult than expected. There are stories of broken fevers, babies born healthy who weren't expected to live, broken bones that healed in record time, and wounds that closed almost as the healer watched.
-Diane Stein, "Essential Reiki Teaching Manual: A Companion Guide for Reiki Healers"
There are many different styles of Reiki.  The method we have been trained and attuned to is Usui Shiki Ryoho. Usui Shiki Ryoho is the original Japanese branch of Reiki that focuses on the spiritual teachings of Usui and offers training in a non Western format. Usui Reiki Ryoho translates as Usui Spiritual Energy Healing Method and the Usui Reiki Ryoho lineage aims to reflect the practices that were taught by Usui Mikao during his lifetime. Our training and attunements were performed by Reiki Master Richard Fiallo.
Our Reiki Lineage is as follows:
  • Dr Mikao Usui (1919-1922) Sensei Gyohan
  • Dr Chujiro Hayashi (1930's)
  • Mrs. Hawayo Takata 1939
  • Iris Ishikuro 1973
  • Arthur Robertson 1982
  • Jeanine Sande 1989
  • Renaldo Torres 1994
  • Richard Fiallo 1999
  • Becki Baumgartner 2012 / Joyce Dierschke 2012
We practice both Traditional and Contemporary Usui Shiki Ryoho in the manner that we stand by the Traditional Usui Shiki Ryoho concepts but at times incorporate additional modern methods to provide an enhanced healing session.
